It is important for both men and women to be healthy in order to lead a full and happy life. A healthy body houses a healthy mind. This is extremely essential for a long and healthy life. Women are physically weaker than men and so they need to take extra care of their health.

Women are complex and play the role of mother and home maker. They give birth to children and bring them up selflessly so that they can lead a life of their own. Women, especially working women, have many responsibilities and this leads them to sometimes ignore themselves. On the contrary, they need to take extra nutrition and take better care of themselves. Some common diseases that many women suffer from at some stage in their lives are anemia, weight gain, osteoporosis, depression and anxiety. These may be looked upon as simple symptoms, but if unattended, they can turn into serious cases where the woman’s health is at risk. Other diseases like diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, etc that women may suffer from are common also to men.

Many women die of breast cancer due to lack of awareness. Breast cancer occurs when a single cell in the bosom undergoes a change which makes it grow without control. You cannot prevent breast cancer from occurring but you can easily detect it by regularly examining your breasts. When detected at an early stage, breast cancer can be easily cured. Breast massage reduces the risk of breast cancer. You can even massage yourself to stimulate additional lymph and blood flow to the breast. You must gently squeeze and knead the breast and rub it gently with the palms and fingers. Regular massaging helps to detect the presence of any lump in the breast. Regular check-up with a doctor is absolutely essential.

Women should follow a nutritious diet and have a healthy lifestyle. Drinking eight to twelve glasses of water is absolutely essential. It keeps you hydrated throughout the day. Coffee, tea and soft drinks should be avoided as they either have caffeine or are too full of sugar. Do not ever skip breakfast. Avoid skipping meals. A woman’s food should be rich in fiber and fresh fruits and vegetables. Protein should be taken in large quantities. Required amount of carbohydrates should be included in the diet. Calcium rich food should also be eaten. All this accompanied by brisk exercise and work outs is sure to make you hale and healthy. Osteoporosis can also be avoided this way. Follow a hobby to release stress and tension. Go for an early morning walk, this refreshes your body and your lungs get fresh air as well.

Menopause is the stage when most women are adversely affected. Vaginal cancer is another cancer which is associated with women. Eating iron-rich food will keep away anemia. Regular health check-ups and consultations with your doctor is the only way in which you can detect these diseases. Following the doctor’s advise, eating nutritious food and leading a healthy lifestyle are likely to increase your health and happiness manifold.
